CALL TO ACTION

President Obama has cancelled the National Day of Prayer Service

The National Day of Prayer which began with President Truman and then made permanent by President Reagan has been officially cancelled.

This day was designated by the United State Congress as a day when we are asked to come together and pray as a nation for our nation. This day began in 1952 as a floating holiday and then President Reagan set it for the first Thursday in May.

As far back as 1775 the Continental Congress issued a day of prayer in helping with building a new nation. President John Adams in 1798 asked all citizens of all faiths to pray and fast that our country would be protected from all dangers that threaten it.

May 30th 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation that the Senate would recognize the Supreme Authority and just government of the Akmighty god, in all affairs. He also wanted a day set apart for National prayer and humilitation. He wanted us to confess our sins and transgressions. He felt that repentance would lead to mercy and pardon and that only the nations that recognized God as their Lord would truly be blessed. he felt that we had forgotten God.

He asked that all secular pursuits would be abstained and that we would pray in our homes and places of worship, keeping that day holy to the Lord.
