Worth
Written by Lisa Rountree and Nicole Watkins
As a young Christian mother, My definition of this word "worth" has been redeemed as something much more beautiful and broad then what the world had assured me it was. Worth is common word within the secular realm of society, signifying the value or importance of something or someone; a valued commodity that is of importance and rarity that most people succeed towards or try to find. It's a reputation, a standard that says "Hi, I am worth something." This pursuit of "worth" ran me in circles.
I tried to be the very best wife, best employee, have the cleanest house, the best food, a miraculous ministry, and the best reputation along with many other titles. Until one day I realized I wasn't living for me any more. The day when my choices started effecting someone else rather then just me and my husband. The day my child was born.
You see, we never really find out how much we are worth until we take our eyes off ourselves and invest it into someone else. It's the day when you turn that word "worth" for the word "selflessness." It's the days that you do the dishes when you rather go to bed early. It's when you cut the crust off of your kids lunch even while running ten minutes late. It's when you look at scribbles but truly see one of the greatest masterpiece ever created. It's the time that you spend bundling your kids up to go play in the cold and ten minutes later they run up having to go potty. It's the day when you find joy in helping someone else find their own worth. That is when you become truly worthy.
There have been times when I thought I lost my worth, when I had to start giving all my time, efforts and very being into being a mom, and taking care of my little ones... but I now realize how selfish that thinking was, and that there is nothing more worthy of my time or energy, than investing it into the children God has given me.
Moms, We are Worthy!
